Tavares couple found dead in home after likely murder-suicide, police say

A Tavares married couple were found dead in their home Tuesday night in what appears to be a murder-suicide, police say.

What happened?

What we know:

The Tavares Police Department says they responded to a well-being check on Tuesday night at a gated community on Landing View in Lake County.

When they entered the home, police found a dead married couple who they identified as 72-year-old Karen Knight and 70-year-old Randy Rice. Officers said the couple sustained gunshot wounds, and a firearm was recovered at the scene, still in the hand of Rice. 

Detectives believe the incident was isolated, and they are investigating it as a likely murder-suicide.

Officials say no additional suspects are being sought at this time, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

What we don't know:

It is currently unclear if the incident is a confirmed murder-suicide. Investigators have not yet released any details on what led them to the alleged determination.

Police say they are continuing to process evidence and conduct interviews.
